Mercury privacy policy
This covers Mercury, the HF modem, in every form Rhizomatica distributes it:
the iOS and Android apps, and the Linux, Windows and macOS builds.
Rhizomatica collects no data from Mercury. The app has no account, no
analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking, and it sends
nothing to Rhizomatica or to anyone else on the internet.
What the app uses, and where it stays
- The microphone, or your radio’s audio input. Mercury is a modem: it
listens to the audio from your radio to decode the signal, as it arrives.
The audio is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- The speaker, or your radio’s audio output, to transmit the modem
signal.
- Files on your device. Mercury keeps its settings, a log of what the
modem did (callsigns, times, signal reports) and your chat history on
the device. They stay there until you delete them or the app.
- Local network ports. Mercury opens TCP ports so that the email,
chat and file applications you choose can use the modem, and a web page
for its status. They answer to programs on your device or local network,
not to Rhizomatica.
What goes over the air
What you transmit is a radio signal. Anyone with a receiver can hear it, and
amateur-radio rules in most countries forbid encrypting it. Your callsign
is sent with every connection. Do not send over the air anything you would
not want others to read.
